They are very clean and organized and create wonderful spaces for the animals while they wait for their forever homes. I do wish they had a larger selection of adults cats for adoption. Other than that a wonderful place to look for a new pet.

We were from out of state and wanted to visit the grave sight of Bobbie the Wonder Dog. A young man approached us then went to get Kylynn and Jade who escorted us to the grave which is located at the back of the shelter. They were both exceptionally kind in allowing us as much time as we wanted. So very friendly and kind. I would have to say if I was looking to bring a pet back home with us this would be the perfect place to adopt from.

The work these people do here is truly amazing. I rescued my Pomsky from here 8 years ago and he was the best thing that ever happened to my life. I even had him trained to serve as my Diabetic Alert Dog, PTSD related service dog, and ESA. We were inseparable until he Sadly passed from cancer last month.\nToday, after noticing one specific elderly dog on their website over the last week- and feeling drawn to him the same way I was drawn to my Pomsky (who, in contrast, was only 3 years old when I adopted him) - I went and adopted my new sidekick - Gizmo. I'm so grateful I have the opportunity to ensure this precious guy doesn't have to spend any more of his life feeling sad, alone, and abandoned. That I will get to make sure he learns what being truly loved and having finally found his Fur-ever home actually feels like - I find it an honor to be able to do that for him. Especially since no one was rushing to adopt a 10½ year old dog with multiple health problems and a history of neglect. Due to my own situation in life, I know all too well what it feels like to be getting older, having chronic health problems, abandoned by people once considered family, and feeling utterly and completely alone. So the fact I have been given the chance to help him to NOT feel that way ever again is truly an honor. And I owe it all to the wonderful people at Portland Humane society. Not all heroes wear capes or (id badges), but all Humane society volunteers are definitely heroes.\n\nAnd for those considering getting a new dog - PLEASE choose a rescue. Help support the Humane society, the work they do, and make sure no dog has to ever feel abandoned and all alone again.\n(I've included photos of both my first rescue from these guys - Chewy (RIP) and a picture of Gizmo.

Had a lovely experience walking the cat area and dog spaces ❤️ the staff were kind as always! Most of the cats in the cat area were under vet care and were not ready for adoption, which makes perfect sense. There are a lot of puppies that are not ready yet which it was still great to see them.

Had to leave a review because he’s so darn cute.\n\nThe facility is quite clean and orderly. The staff/volunteers REALLY, REALLY care about the animals and making sure you know everything you can about yours. Partnered with excellent pet insurance that covers preexisting conditions, as these are shelter cats.\n\nPoor Xavier (previously Max) was originally surrendered as a kitten, adopted and then surrendered again. Not sure why—he is the sweetest boy I have ever met. The staff went over in detail his history allowing me to make the decision to take him home. I’m overjoyed that he is furrever a part of my family. The adoption fees are extremely reasonable as well, and they have a store on site.\n\nedit: found out today he’s about 8 months and not 1yr and 6 months. It was important for me to get an adult cat but he’s already here so what can i do LOL. But i would ask for age confirmation before making decisions!
