The Clean Dog

Great experience with Cleandog — the team is clearly made up of good people who genuinely care about the pups they work with. You can tell it's a family-owned, neighborhood business, and that local touch makes a real difference. Friendly, fun, and trustworthy. Highly recommend if you want a team that treats your dog like part of the family.

Kat did a groom for my golden retriever and did an absolute hack job. I specifically asked if she was experienced because people have a hard time doing long haired breeds, and they assured me she was qualified. They lied. Her ears are still greasy, have goop in them, and her teeth are definitely not brushed. Giving a bad groom is one thing, but she also nicked my dog in MULTIPLE spots. See pictures. I knew she was acting weird when I got her, and it was clear based on how long she peed when I finally got her SIX HOURS after drop off (10am -4pm) that she hadn’t been let out to pee during that time. She’s been sad and somber all day and if you know goldens you know that that is the opposite of who they are. I will never ever go back to this establishment.

I would NOT recommend this place! The final straw for me was last week (05/14/26) when I was dropping my puppy off for daycare (she's been going to daycare here 1-2 times a week for several months), and she immediately starting pulling me back toward the front door and cowering with fear when they were getting ready to take her back. She has never done that before, but I realized that her behavior changed immediately when she saw the owner, Maria, walking toward her. I've consistently had very brief and rude experiences with her and almost everyone who works there (with the exception of the person w/ red hair and facial piercings), so for my dog to behave like that- absolutely not. I've always had a weird feeling in my gut that they don't treat the dogs humanely and now I know they don't. Dogs don't lie. I was only taking my puppy here out of convenience as it's a block away from where I work, but after this incident and hearing from two of my co-workers that they also felt that the place is "off," The Clean Dog has lost my business. Based on some other reviews I've read, you just don't want to take your dog here... at all. If you're looking for a spot you and your dog will both love, Barking Hound Village in Old 4th Ward is amazing!!!

This review is long overdue! We have been taking our Australian Shepherd to The Clean Dog since he was a puppy. He is not an easy dog to deal with and does not like baths, brushing, or the dryer. Every time we have taken him to The Clean Dog they have been wonderful and so patient. When we drop him off now he struts in and doesn’t look back! I’d recommend The Clean Dog to all my fellow dog owners.

This is the only place we take our little Maltese pup - been going here for years! When we first got our baby, it took forever to find the right person to give her the perfect cut - had a lot of bad hairstyles until we found the Clean Dog! We get the Cosmopolitian about every month or so and are able to put specific notes on file, i.e. # blade, rounded muzzle, keep the ears long like pigtails. Isn't she lovely?
